There is a problem with the 1.1.5.7 Emmy. This may manifest itself as
content appearing misaligned/or blank rectangles appearing in a page, the
debug window will show a HTTP400 error for the file although the file IS
present on the webserver AND the request is correct.
The problem originates from a new file type which Liberate have introduced
on the 1.2 server called filledrect (i.e. filled rectangle) which aims to
reduce the amount of data/no of requests sent to the client for
blank/single colour images. This new file type SHOULD only be sent by the
Transcoder server to 1.2 clients as 1.1 clients do not understand it.
However, the Transcoder is sending this new file type to Emmy v1.1.5.7
(ntl's current version) which does not recognise filledrect. This has
been raised with Liberate and a fix will be included in the next server
release. This issue should not be occurring on any STB's.
Meanwhile, PLEASE NOTE: Liberate claim that the only images that will be
transcoded into a filledrect image will be:
- Gif images.
- Those containing only transparent colour.
- Images less than 16 pixels big.
A possible workaround to ensure that pages appear identically in Emmy and
a STB is to use a spacer tag or jpg instead (preferably spacer tag).
