The set-top box also contains the Liberate TV Navigator, a browser based on Netscape Navigator 3. It is called a "thin client" because the software is scaled down to run on a low memory/processing speed STB and functionality normally contained in PC browser software is relocated onto the DTV servers The set-top box does not contain a hard drive; so the main issues/concerns usually surround the memory available for processing pages. There is also a small amount of caching which occurs on the set-top box. Speed of delivery of content to the STB is not usually an issue. |
