secure transactions

There is no on-screen message to inform users when pages are secure. Customers assume that they can safely enter their financial details on an ntl TV Internet site.

  • All transactions must use a secure server and SSL using a minimum of 40bit secure encryption. ONLY 40-bit and 128-bit SSL encryption strengths are supported on ntl’s TV Internet platform.
  • Don’t use HTTPS unnecessarily for non-secure items. HTTPS items will not be cached and this will slow down your site
  • Be aware of issues regarding coding of Cookies

PLEASE NOTE: As part of the SSL-handshaking, the client and server agree on the strongest encryption strength that both can use (i.e. lowest common denominator). For example, if a 56-bit certificate is installed on your web server then the SSL will use 40-bit encryption.

SSL Certificates are supported from the following Certificate Authorities (CA):

  1. Verisign International (visit www.bttrustwise.com for the UK affiliate site)
  2. RSA (visit www.rsasecurity.com)
