colour

TVs display colour differently to PC monitors. When designing you have to be aware of these differences and avoid the 'visual disturbances' which can occur.

  • TV safe colours must be used throughout (use #E6E6E6; RGB 230/230/230 for white backgrounds)
  • Reduce the saturation of the colours you're using to 80-85%
  • Combine colours with similar 'chrominance' (ie shades of the same colour), or colours which have RGB values close together.
  • Do not use background colours that are similar to the yellow bounding box colour. On a similar coloured background the bounding box will 'disappear' which will make user navigation difficult
