navigation and UI
- Navigation must be clear, consistently presented, easy to access and distinct from the main content
- Navigation must be logical and visible. The user must always be able to clearly understand where they are (in the context of the site hierarchy). There must be links back through the site hierarchy to previous menu options (not just via linear 'back' buttons/functionality).
- Navigation must be self-contained within the site - not reliant on the ntl 'back' functionality
- "Fast text" colour buttons cannot be used anywhere within the site (as these are used by ntl as core navigation aids)
- Do not disable the ntl Back key function provided via the remote/keyboard
- Do not change the default behaviour of the yellow bounding box
- Do not use frames
- Ensure the number of screens the user has to click through to get to content are minimised within the site to provide quick and easy access to content
- Do not provide instructional text or on-screen prompts relating to generic ntl navigational features (such as "use the arrow keys to move the yellow box")
- Use Dynamic tables to dynamically display several levels of menu/nav options on one screen, to avoid the user having to click through multiple screens of menus. (see code examples)
