When developing a TV Internet site you need to be aware of a number of design and technical issues which you may not have come across when designing for the web. To ensure your TV Internet site works, we've put together the following Requirements for Integration.
The site will not be published unless it conforms to these requirements. The Requirements are listed in the following sub-sections; but below is a summary of the general principles you should bear in mind when developing.
Design for viewing from a TV distance
Everything has to be larger, clearer and less cluttered
Design with knowledge of TV display issues
Be aware of colour saturation and combinations, as well as the use of thin lines
Design for navigating with a remote control
Simplify layouts and reducing links, text entry & scrolling pages
Coding using supported technology
HTML 3.2, JavaScript 1.1 (some exceptions & extensions), SSL 2.0/3.0 and HTTP 1.0 is supported (no plug-ins or streaming media).
Coding to minimise processing
Minimise processing by the set top box and DTV servers - no full screen backgrounds; size of images and efficiency of code is important
Coding to maximise caching & reduce network traffic
Manage caching with server-side directives
